Privacy Policy

Lessgo is built around the friends already in your phone, so we take this seriously. Here is exactly what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

Who we are

Lessgo (“Lessgo”, “we”, “us”) provides a mobile application and this website that help friend groups plan hangouts, collect RSVPs and split shared expenses. We are the data fiduciary for the personal data described below. You can reach us any time at privacy@lessgo.in.

What we collect

On this website

  • Launch-update signups. If you submit your email address, we store the normalized address, signup source and submission timestamps in our signup database so we can tell you when the app is available. We do not use it for anything else.
  • Phone verification and account deletion. If you use our account deletion page, Google Firebase processes the phone number you enter, the one-time verification result, reCAPTCHA signals, and related security metadata so we can authenticate you and prevent someone from deleting another person’s account.
  • Analytics. Only if you agree. If you select “Allow” on the consent banner, we load PostHog (hosted in the EU) to see which pages and sections are useful. Text is masked, session recording is off, and no analytics scripts load before you consent.
  • Server logs. Our hosting provider records standard request logs, including IP address, for security and reliability.

In the app

  • Your phone number, used to create and verify your account with a one-time code.
  • Your profile — name, email address, date of birth, gender and profile picture, as you provide them.
  • Contacts, only if you grant the permission. We use it to show which of your contacts already use Lessgo so you can invite them. We do not message your contacts on your behalf, we do not build profiles of people who are not users, and we never sell or share contact data.
  • Content you create — events, RSVPs, groups, vibes, messages, expenses, photos and documents you choose to upload.
  • Safety reports, when you report another user or shared content. We retain the selected category, any details you provide, the accounts involved, the content type and stable item identifier where applicable, review status, and restricted internal reviewer notes. Reports are not shown to the reported user.
  • Your home area, so we can show you offers near you. When you first sign in, and whenever you refresh it from the Location option in the Vibes menu, the app reads your device’s location — only with your permission, and only while you are using the app — to work out your state, district, city and PIN code. You can also pick your district yourself. We save these to your profile together with the coordinates of that reading (or the centre of the district you picked), and we attach your state, district and city to Vibes you post. Your home area is visible only to you: other users and brand partners never receive it.
  • Location for meeting points and Timeline checkpoints, only when you choose to add one. We do not track your location in the background.
  • Brand offers you use. When you claim an offer from a partner brand, we keep the coupon, the event it is attached to and how it was used — such as the outlet or order, the bill or order value, the discount and the number of people in your group — so we can apply the discount and share its value fairly in your group’s expenses.
  • Device and notification tokens, so we can deliver push alerts you have asked for.
  • App analytics. Google Firebase records privacy-safe screen visits, basic app and device usage, and one-time activation milestones so we can understand aggregate product usage. This is enabled by default. We do not include your phone number, contacts, messages or event content, and you can turn analytics off at any time under Profile → General Settings → Permissions.
  • Crash and performance diagnostics. Sentry receives bounded crash, error and performance information so we can keep the app reliable. We configure it not to collect screenshots, view hierarchies, request bodies, contact details or other user-generated content.

Why we use it

  • To create and secure your account and verify it is really you.
  • To deliver the service — events, RSVPs, groups, expenses and sharing.
  • To send notifications you have opted into.
  • To show you offers from partner brands that fit your home area, age group and gender, and to let you claim and redeem them. We match offers on our servers: brands choose who an offer is for, but never learn who it matched.
  • To keep Lessgo safe, prevent abuse and debug problems.
  • To understand aggregate app usage. You can disable app analytics at any time.

We do not sell your personal data, and we never share it with ad networks or data brokers. Brand partners receive personal data only when you choose to use one of their offers, as described below.

Who we share it with

We share data with service providers who process it on our behalf, under contract, for the purposes above:

  • Google Firebase — phone verification and authentication, plus aggregate app analytics unless you disable it in General Settings.
  • Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure — storage for images, documents and application data.
  • Railway — application hosting.
  • Sentry — privacy-filtered crash reporting and performance diagnostics for the mobile app and backend services.
  • PostHog (EU) — product analytics, only where you have consented.

Brand partners. When you use a brand offer, the partner receives only what it needs to honour it. At an outlet, its staff and its partner dashboard see your first name and last initial (for example, “Ananya R.”), your group size, and the bill and discount; for an online order placed with your code, its dashboard shows the same summary. When you book through an offer — for example, cinema tickets or a stay — we also send the partner your name and phone number so it can issue the booking, and you pay the partner directly on its own checkout page. Partners never receive your home area, age, gender or contacts, and they handle what they receive under their own privacy policies.

We may also disclose data where we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to protect the rights and safety of our users.

How long we keep it

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your profile, we delete or anonymise your personal data, except where we are required to retain something to meet a legal obligation or resolve a dispute. As part of deletion, we request immediate deactivation of device-token records so pushes stop; those records may remain in inactive form for security and delivery-suppression purposes. If automated cleanup cannot be confirmed, the deletion page directs you to privacy support for manual review. Open safety reports remain available until they are reviewed. Resolved and dismissed reports are normally deleted after 180 days. If either account is deleted before then, its identifier is removed from the retained report. We may keep a report longer where required by law or needed for an active safety or legal dispute. Launch-update emails are deleted once the launch communication is complete or when you ask us to remove them, whichever comes first.

Your home area stays on your profile until you change it, and is deleted with your profile; the area attached to a Vibe is deleted with that Vibe. Records of brand offers you claimed or used — the coupon and, for redemptions, your first name and last initial, group size and amounts — are kept after you delete your profile because they form part of the partner’s sales records. Write to privacy@lessgo.in and we will anonymise them.

Your rights

Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 — and equivalent rights if you are covered by other privacy laws — you can:

  • Access a summary of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct or complete data that is inaccurate.
  • Erase your data, including by deleting your profile in the app.
  • Withdraw consent you previously gave, including for website analytics, or disable app analytics in General Settings.
  • Nominate another person to exercise these rights on your behalf.
  • Raise a grievance with us, and escalate to the Data Protection Board of India.

To exercise any of these, email privacy@lessgo.in. You can also delete your account through our account deletion page or directly in the app under Profile → Danger Zone → Delete Profile.

Grievance Officer

In line with the DPDP Act 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000, you can contact our Grievance Officer about any concern regarding your personal data. We acknowledge complaints within 48 hours and aim to resolve them within 30 days.

Grievance Officer, Lessgo

Children

Lessgo is not intended for anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. Where the law requires a higher minimum age or verifiable parental consent, that requirement applies instead. If you believe a child has given us personal data, write to us and we will remove it.

Cookies and similar technologies

This site uses local storage to remember your theme preference and your analytics choice — both strictly necessary for the site to behave as you asked. Analytics storage is only set after you select “Allow”. You can change your mind by clearing this site’s storage in your browser.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Access to production systems is restricted to personnel who need it. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach affects your data we will notify you and the relevant authority as required by law.

Changes to this policy

If we make a material change we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change is significant, tell you in the app. Continuing to use Lessgo after a change means you accept the updated policy.
